Certified Dog Trainer
Brief info
Certified Dog Trainer, Owner of Pets Chicago, advocate, volunteer and forever seeking to learn more!
Tamara Gansz is originally from New Orleans, and has been obsessed with dogs since her earliest days. She grew up with labs, goldens, macaws, parrots and was responsible for their care for as long as she can remember. While her BA is in Art History, it seems her destiny led back to dogs. Tamara started Pets Chicago, a Chicago dog-walking company, in 2003 and has been humbled and learning every day through the beauty of the animals she cares for. She and her husband Matt, have two sons, and raising them, while running a business and absorbing major health setbacks with her husband, has given Tamara tremendous perspective and gratitude to not only be able to support her family, but by doing something she truly loves and is deeply passionate about.
Leeloo, Jinx and Sevro are Tamara’s three rescue dogs, along with Hov, a beautiful Rottie who continues to challenge and inspire education in working with dogs that might be more complicated. Leeloo, is a therapy dog with Canine Therapy Corp, as well as an Ambassador Dog for Safe Humane Chicago and is the muse by which training became so fundamentally important.
20 plus years of dog walking and boarding has given Tamara the landscape to see the amazing complexity of dogs. When Covid forced Pets-Chicago to pause, Tamara decided to get her certification for dog training and interned and subsequently hired by Anything is Pawzible, one of Chicago’s most respected training businesses. Tamara’s philosophy is that training is a stepping stone to communicate and understand our furry companions on a deeper level that transcends limitations.
There is not a day that goes by where dogs aren’t at the epicenter of Tamara’s universe (much to the chagrin of her husband and two wonderful teenagers). The truth is, the more you know, the more you have to learn. In the 20 plus years of being rooted in the dog community, the shift in how people view their dogs is remarkable. They are not simply pets, they are beloved family members, worthy and deserving of their human’s investment and time.
